Jeff King and Amanda Tritinger from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Engineering With Nature\u00ae program, an innovative nature-based research program that was fostered at ERDC and has grown to become an initiative with global reach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now approaching its 15th year, EWN has revolutionized the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE),, presenting a shift toward integrating natural elements into engineered design solutions for maximum benefit, operational efficiency and sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, the program is a major partner with the Department of Defense, and a surge of both Congressional and White House support has amplified the program and the importance of nature-based engineering solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

EWN has transitioned from a conceptual framework to a widespread movement. It informs policy, practice and research, driving the adoption of nature-based solutions for infrastructure development and contributing to a more resilient, sustainable and collaborative future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. King is EWN\u2019s national lead, and his research focus is on integrating EWN techniques into traditional infrastructure, harnessing the environmental power of nature and nature-based structures, and fostering and growing EWN\u2019s partnerships across the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Tritinger is the EWN deputy program manager and a research hydraulic engineer, specializing in coastal engineering and numerical modeling. Through her work with EWN and ERDC\u2019s Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory, she has dedicated her research to creating a more resilient future for our nation\u2019s coastal communities and expanding EWN\u2019s research collaborations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
