Dr. McKay is a researcher with the US Army Corps of Engineers&#8217; Environmental Laboratory. His research focuses broadly on examining the ecological effects of water resources infrastructure with applications related to urban ecosystem restoration, ecological models, dam operations and decommisioning, and flood risk management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This presentation focuses on infrastructure development and biodiversity conservation are often planned and executed in isolation. However, outcomes from these efforts are interlinked, with coordinated actions required to jointly address sustainability challenges. Natural infrastructure \u2014 encompassing a spectrum of natural to conventional solutions \u2014 is key to the infrastructure\u2013biodiversity connection and should be brought into large-scale application. In the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Engineering With Nature initiative seeks to intentionally align natural and engineering processes to efficiently and sustainably deliver economic, environmental, and social benefits.
