Justin Shawler

Research Physical Scientist, Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory, ERDC

Bio

Justin Shawler is a Research Physical Scientist in the Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory stationed at the Joint Airborne Lidar Bathymetry Technical Center of Expertise (JALBTCX) in Kiln, MS. Justin’s research background is in coastal sedimentology, coastal sediment budgets, and the drivers of change along barrier islands and in estuaries. His current projects focus on geomorphic analysis of coastal change, quantifying coastal vulnerability, and sediment budget analysis. He previously worked in state government as a Coastal Scientist at the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control. There, he led projects in the Shoreline and Waterway Management Section focused on beneficial use of dredged material and the sedimentology and bathymetry of shallow-draft navigation channels. He holds a Ph.D. from the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (2022) and a B.S. in Geology and Government (2016) from William & Mary.
