Sandra Nelson is the technical area leader for Freshwater Ecology Canada at Stantec, with over 20 years of experience in freshwater ecology and environmental permitting. She specializes in managing complex projects, developing permitting strategies, and leading multi-disciplinary teams. She is a registered professional biologist with a passion for restoring, enhancing, and creating fish habitat. As lead biologist for the Sumgas Creek Restoration, Sandra guided the team through permitting, design, and construction challenges, including a novel egg salvage operation to protect cutthroat trout and re-establish fish passage. Sandra is committed to building strong relationships with clients, regulators, Indigenous communities, and stakeholders in her projects’ areas, and to achieving successful project outcomes.
