Col. Richard Pannell, USACE Galveston District Commander, is Presented EWN Proving Ground Award.

Dr. Todd Bridges, Dr. Burton Suedel, Cynthia Banks (all of ERDC-EL) and Dr. Julie Rosati (ERDC-CHL) met with USACE Galveston District (SWG) on 31 August 15 in Galveston, TX for a workshop to collaboratively discuss Engineering With Nature (EWN) on the Texas Coast.

The twenty-three participants included representatives from the Texas General Land Office, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Port of Houston Authority, and National Marine Fisheries Service. The workshop began with a field site inspection to the Bolivar Marsh Restoration and Evia Island Creation projects Afterwards, workshop participants discussed coastal Texas regional sediment and ecological resources management opportunities within the Galveston Bay, identified knowledge gaps, and explored R&D project development opportunities. In addition, Dr. Bridges presented Col. Richard Pannell, SWG Commander, with a plaque recognizing SWG as an EWN “Proving Ground” and its commitment to promoting the principals and practices of EWN in its programs and projects.
