Dr. Burton Suedel, ERDC Research Biologist, speaks with Wisconsin Public Radio about creating breakwater habitat in Milwaukee.

Dr. Burton Suedel was interviewed by Wisconsin Public Radio about the collaboration between the USACE and the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee to create breakwater habitat in Milwaukee.

Breakwater structures are designed to protect vessels from the effect of waves by forming an artificial harbor. Large rock is often used to armor a breakwater structure in the Great Lakes. To create a more dynamic habitat for a variety of aquatic animals the USACE is evaluating the placement of smaller rocks with the larger rocks.
