Bio

Sam Jackson is a Research Forester at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Environmental Laboratory (EL) within the Environmental Systems Branch Geospatial Data Analysis Team. Sam earned a Master of Science (2002) in Forestry with a remote sensing focus and a Bachelor of Science (2000) from Mississippi State University, College of Forest Resources.

Sam’s research focus is on utilizing Geospatial and Remote Sensing technology for DoD Research and Development for both civil and military operations, primarily involving ecological and environmental resources.  He has expertise in the acquisition and analysis of UAS lidar data and hyperspectral imagery for modeling/visualization, site characterization, and remote surface analysis. He has experience performing advanced image analysis/processing and investigating the use of neural network classifiers for automated feature extraction, configuring and managing geographic datasets in various spatial domains and data formats, and conducting research and providing analytical support using emerging technologies for USACE Districts and military installations with respect to geospatial analysis.
