Dr. Thomas A. Douglas of Fairbanks, Alaska is a Senior Science Technical Manager for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers- Engineer Research and Development Center Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) in Alaska. He has worked at CRREL on Fort Wainwright since 2001. His research is focused on the environmental characterization of permafrost, snow, and ice to support infrastructure development and understand the response of Arctic and sub-arctic terrains to climate warming. He has participated in multiple 500-1,000 mile wintertime traverses across the Alaskan Arctic as part of studies on sea ice, glaciers, snow, and permafrost. He has also worked at remote field sites in Canada and Greenland. Dr. Douglas is an author or co-author of more than 100 scientific papers and book chapters. He is an avid Nordic and downhill skier, river runner, and outdoorsman who has explored many remote parts of Alaska. His work with EWN is focused on projects in remote Alaskan communities that are currently experiencing unprecedented coastal erosion and flooding.
