Dr. Banks started with U.S. Army Engineer Research Development Center (ERDC) in 1995 as a student intern in the ERDC Environmental Laboratory. Over her 20+ years, she continued to serve the ERDC Environmental Laboratory as a lead laboratory technician, research biologist, program manager for the Dredging Operations Technical Support (DOTS) and assistant program manager for the Dredging Operations and Environmental Research (DOER) and Engineering With Nature® (EWN) programs. Dr. Banks then transitioned to the ERDC Installation Operations Command as an environmental protection specialist and later as senior environmental manager over the course of six years. Prior to this selection, Dr. Banks served as a strategic planner in the ERDC Executive Office where, for nearly five years, she led strategy development, strategic engagements, and communications with external and internal stakeholders, primarily including academia and ERDC senior leadership.
Dr. Banks holds a B.S. in Environmental Science and M.S. in Hazardous Materials Management from Jackson State University and a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership from Columbia International University. She is also a graduate of the USACE Emerging Leaders program and the ERDC Emerging Leaders and Leadership Development programs and has earned numerous awards, recognitions and technical publications over 30 years.
