Remembering a Great Partner and Friend

  • news

It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the loss of Justin Ehrenwerth, a much-respected friend to the Engineering With Nature community. Justin’s contributions to EWN and the broader field of natural infrastructure are immense. Justin’s kindness towards people and enthusiasm for his work were inspiring.

One of Justin’s most recent contributions to Engineering With Nature included the comprehensive benefits evaluation for nature-based solutions research that culminated in the Measuring What Matters Summit in Washington DC last November. This event brought together policymakers, scientists, and other stakeholders to explore ways to measure the social and economic benefits of infrastructure projects, with a particular emphasis on Engineering With Nature principles. Justin also generously shared his time and ideas on the Engineering With Nature podcast more than once (Season 3 Episode 1 and Episode 2, Season 5 Episode 4) and was a special guest on an ERDC LinkedIn Live event in August 2022 highlighting Nature as a National Priority.

He will be sincerely missed by the Engineering With Nature community. Our deepest condolences go out to Justin’s family and our colleagues at The Water Institute. We will honor his memory by continuing to pursue the vision of more sustainable communities, aligning engineering purposes with natural processes for multiple benefits.
