Municipal Water Leader interviews USACE EWN

In July 2022, Municipal Water Leader speaks with Dr. Todd Bridges, National lead for EWN, about scaling nature-based solutions to adverse weather and climate changes. Read the article. We need to make the exceptional nature-based projects of the past the common approach for delivering projects in the future. To do that, we need to continue to […]
Construction Zone: Jacksonville District breaks ground at W.P. Franklin Lock and Dam implementing EWN-inspired design

In 2019, the Engineering With Nature and Landscape Architecture project delivery team developed recommendations for how the W.P. Franklin Lock and Dam facility might incorporate EWN principles to create habitat along with educational and recreational opportunities. We are excited to announce that the EWN activities and associated report inspired the designs that are now being […]
EWN On The Road: The Dune Protecting Artemis

In the summer of 2022, Dr. Todd Bridges is on the road in the American Southeast. See pictures, watch video clips, and learn more about natural infrastructure uniting four federal agencies at the Cape Canaveral Complex in Florida. We drove past the rocket to the adjacent beach line to see the dune that NASA built […]
EWN® releases video: Engineering With Nature® Remote Sensing Technology

The USACE Engineering With Nature® (EWN) program uses remote sensing methods to help practitioners plan projects that align natural processes and engineering capability for greater benefits. Remotely sensed data can reveal changes over the life of a project to quantify benefits and communicate project outcomes. View on Videos
29 July 2018 – NNBF for Coastal Resilience hosted by International Conference on Coastal Engineering (ICCE)
The US Army Corps of Engineers organized and conducted (July 29, 2018) a short course titled, “Natural and Nature-Based Features (NNBF) for Coastal Resilience” in association with the International Conference on Coastal Engineering (ICCE) 2018 in Baltimore, Maryland. The short course included a range of topics with a focus on current and emerging NNBF applications in coastal settings. Course lectures were offered by 14 speakers from a diverse set of organizations that are applying Engineering With Nature (EWN) practices in pursuit of enhanced coastal resilience.
A Novel Wave Attenuator: Wave Transmission Testing Results

Walter Marine and Atlantic Reefmaker entered into a testing service agreement with the US Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) to perform wave transmission experimental testing on a novel wave attenuator product. This testing was meant to evaluate the reduction in wave height provided by the Reefmaker Ecosystems Wave Attenuator structure using a physical […]
